About Habitat for Humanity
The McMinnville Area Affiliate is part of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world by making decent shelter a matter of conscience. Our actions will rid the world of shacks, collapsing tenement housing, unsafe neighborhoods and overcrowded living conditions.
Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to partner with low-income families by offering homeownership opportunities through the construction of simple, safe and affordable homes.
Since 1991, McMinnville Area Habitat for Humanity has helped 36 families escape the burdens of substandard housing and move into safe, decent, affordable homes. We have seen first-hand how homeownership impacts these families, children and communities.
The benefits of Habitat’s program include:
- Helping partner families gain an increased sense of self worth and learn new skills;
- Freeing up family income for better health care, nutrition and educational opportunities;
- Providing children the stability they need to perform well in school; adds new revenue to the property tax base;
- Rebuilding neighborhoods struggling with crime and poverty.
Every year Habitat gives millions of volunteers an opportunity to make a tangible difference in their own community, a feeling, which in and of itself, adds incredible value to the lives of all who participate.
